What that email proves is it takes ESC sequences to trigger the [ANSI] on the
start of the Subject line in mystic. The first one I tried had ANSI blocks but
no ESC sequences. The Dreamlamd BBS Ad had both so it showed the [ANSI].

So that's what it requires ESC sequences. Blocks or single characters, even
block ANSI characters don't trigger the [ANSI] at the start of the Subject
line, only ESC sequences.
