After packing and pruning the message base, talisman displayed the
messages as being from 1 to 200. I pruned from 18000 odd to 200.

Doing the same thing on a intel hpt install, the message numbers are not
changed, but there is still x amount of messages in the message base.

I'm unable to see what they look like in golded/msged as cursor movement
is totally broken on m68k.
