Are you familiar the gemini protocol? It is a new protocol that is sort of
halfway between gopher and http. They claim it's heavier than gopher, lighter
than the web, doesn't replace either, strives for max power:weight ratio,
takes privacy seriously.

Lagrange is a good gemini browser which also supports gopher if you are
interested in taking a look.
