I think these days points are most useful if you have an actual node for your bbs, then if you want to experiment with other bbses, or perhaps have a ftn reading setup, you can do that with points off of your bbs, you couldn't do that with your main bbs being a point (ie, points off points) I have used a point on fsxnet for a while before coming back because I was hesitent to bother Paul to set me up a new node if I didn't stay very long.
