try your scanner model in their search. i was using vuescan for several years. But it is a commercial software with a subscription- and a one time price-model. i think it was worth the price. depends on how much you use your scanner.

Back then I thought about using a different linux with rolling releases, but Arch was not it for me. I just wanted something reliable that had a gui similar to windows and does not cause much headache. The bigger the userbase the better, since you can always find answers if there is an issue.

And if you want, you can always try other colors of linux in a VM :)
