I thought it was really cool, but I didn't know anyone else who had a Sparq drive (maybe just one of my friends). I later got a zip drive though, because my college had some computers that had zip drives. I thought the late 90s was an interesting time with all those different removable media formats being released - especilly with 2 different ones from the same company (Syquest's Sparq and the 440MB one you mentioned).
