When a student first starts college, a certain degree or skillset might be highly in demand, but after maybe 4 years when they graduate, it might not be really in demand anymore. And degrees that take longer (such as medical doctors, etc.) might be taking more of a risk since their degrees take longer to complete, though it may be a fairly safe bet that there will always be good demand for medical doctors.
