I just had a flashback to a consultant back in the '90s who didn't know what he was talking about. I didn't know either, that's why we were trying to hire someone to assist with getting on the net.

He did a traceroute from one mail server to another, and was trying to convince us that in-transit email would be stored in cleartext at every site on the traceroute - a few problems with this claim - one, that most of the hops were routers, which don't store packets, and two, a complete lack of understanding of SMTP.
