If you wanted to find out reviews on various different films from the 1970s, you probably had to use some microfilm at the library. Or find a book, I guess. I would imagine there were plenty of those that compiled movie reviews. Though it makes me wonder when movie reviewing in newspapers became a thing. Probably from the beginning, I guess... ....searching...
