If you want to use the desktop for BBS stuff, just tether it to your cellphone.
The feature on the phone you want is "Hotspot" turn it on, set a password
tell your desktop pc to connect to the wifi network you created on the phone
and you're online.

That's how I connect when I'm here in the woods.
