I remember similar concerns being raised where I work way back when, however when it was pointed that the alternative was to run linux in VMs on our workstations (which is much more difficult to keep track of) or run linux on our workstations instead of windows, WSL quickly became the standard. WSL 2 is pretty good, I use it a lot at work & couldn't imagine having to work purely in windows any more. ....
