Subj : Stargazing News - June 18th, 2025 To : All From : CJ Date : Tue Jun 17 2025 05:51 am Wednesday, June 18, 2025 Third Quarter Moon The moon will officially reach its third quarter phase at 3:19 p.m. EDT, 12:19 p.m. PDT, or 19:19 UT on Wednesday, June 18. At third (or last) quarter the moon appears half-illuminated on its western, sunward side. The moon will rise after midnight local time, and then remain visible until it sets in the western daytime sky in early afternoon. Third quarter moons are positioned ahead of the Earth in our trip around the Sun. About 31/2 hours later, Earth will occupy that same location in space. The week of dark, moonless evening skies that follow this phase are the best ones for observing deep sky targets.
