That is weird. The original message came through here with backticks
instead of ESC, why or how magicka would have displayed the colour is
unknown to me. It's been a while since I worked on magicka, but the only
conversion was UTF-8 <-> CP437 via iconv.

Was the message to magicka sent on from the 8-bit ADS echo or the 7-bit
FSX_BBS echo? (Sorry, it wasn't clear to me)

The ESC character isn't high ascii, but perhaps GT-POWER does some extra
conversion for non-printable characters?

Might be worth downloading GT-POWER and having a play, though i think the
website is gone?
