One thing to note is I'm using my BBS PC via VNC, so perhaps that has something to Ni> do with it. sounds like it's not likging the VNC virtual video adapter. i'm assuming it's an X11 program? if it is, have you tried something like MobaXterm? That has a built in X11 server and can run stuff over an SSH tunnel.
