I've never played with tcpser so I'm certainly no expert.  But one question, do
you mean this as literally as you've written it?

"CONNECT57600"

No BBS software is going to use this connect string by default.  It would be
expecting "CONNECT 57600" or other such speed.  If the emulated modem doesn't
return an expected result code, the BBS will not acknowledge that a connection
has taken place.
