you can't squat unless you can get in before the owner can... even then, the 
owner still has certain rights to take back the domain within some period of 
time...

some folks tend to look further ahead in time than others... but, that one 
could be lost, too, if the notification address(es) are no longer used or 
accessible... that's what happened with fidonet.net...
