I had the same issue.
I have forgotten the details (I think it has to do with the DNS lookup 
[binkp.net] and assuming that it can use it for the wrong fido domain)

Anyways ... my solution looks like this:

#defnode *
include /usr/local/etc/binkd.inc

I have a script that converts the fidonet daily nodelist to a binkd include 
file.
