What do you mean speaking 'loaded as a daemon'?

Being started from terminal with '-D', or loaded via systemd/upstart/whatever?

It looks like you have permissions problem -- and possibly because of modern 
Linux distributives' MAC subsystem (either SELinux or AppArmor).
