Subj : [--- Talk ---] To : Steven Horn From : Winston Smith Date : Fri Mar 21 2003 04:16 am No! No! No! I'm not talking about the node list listing.... I am talking about the Mailer Footer! Sorry! I forgot that those are added by the outgoing mailer and not actually seen by the poster.... My mistake. I should have been more explicit. I do not expect the FidoNET nodelisting to be *ACCURATE* ... especially in Zone 1 ! It hasn't been accurate since the late '80s! I think you use timEd ... hold on a minute while I paste in the footer: -> -!- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+ -> * Origin: northof60.tzo.com, Whitehorse, YT, Canada (1:17/67) The word 'mailer' and 'binkp' are just suggestions.... Why does Michel always assume that I am Charles or you, and now I guess you assume that I am Michel. I am *only* making a suggestion. From the mailer footer above I assumed the posting came from a BBS. I am not asking you to do a blessed thing; I am merely citing an example of how Phil Simpson's "Swills" system does it. I wasted an entire month trying to connect to "Write By Night" and I wasted a month of my time before that trying to connect to "Sparkys". Both were HTTP mailers, but this was noted exactly *NOWHERE* in their postings or their listings or their footers. Why did I assume that they were BBSes ? Because my neighborhood nodelist 1:322/* list M.S.I. Code-Runner TBBS, a board that hasn't been up for over a decade! It lists an NC of "The Software Exchange", a Sysop who has been living on the opposite coast for nine months! It lists "The Caldron", whose Sysop had a heart attack and took his board down two years ago! Lost Crypt lists a phone line when the BBS has been telnet only for the past three years. Nobody seems to care if a board is up or down, they just want the regional votes apparently. When a BBS doesn't behave as expected from the nodelist information, I can not take the results as gospel. How do I determine if a posted footer is a mailer or a BBS ? The FidoNET node listing is no help. The entries are not individually date stamped and the information in Zone 1 is inaccurate! The Postmaster and the Sysop each have to give me a clue, because I am not going to get it from the stale nodelist entries.... --- ViaMAIL!/WC v1.60d * Origin: Chowdanet (401-331-0615) telnet://chowdanet.com (1:323/120) .
