Here (London, UK) I would advertise in the free ads paper (but only expect a few quid for it or even free if buyer collects). Failing that I'd take it to the local charity shop for them to sell, or sell it on ebay, or simply take it to the dump. A shame, but there you go - if you no longer want it, that's the choice! I would also offer to donate the fish to friends or try to sell them, but if that's not possible I'd talk to my fish store and see if they will take them (probably for free!) I don't think you'll get any/much money for it unless you have rare fish or a particularly lovely aquarium, but you should be able to get rid of things for free and ensure the fish have new homes.
