You have asked a lot of good questions there.  The people who believe that
unmanned, unguarded drop boxes are a good idea generally don't want them to
be manned or secured.  Presumably makes them easy to stuff extra ballots
into.

The people who do not believe we should be using unmanned polling places are
usually painted as being part of some conspiracy to prevent people from
voting.

If it works anything like absentee voting, there is an envelope that the
ballot must be put into and that envelope must include the official label
as well as the voter's signature... two things that could be forged.

In my state, we do not use those boxes.  We have three early voting days,
including a Saturday, where official, manned polling locations are open before
the official day.  It works great.  No worries about ballot box stuffing,
tampering, or destruction, and plenty of extra time for the working folks
to get their votes in.

In my opinion, if you are using an unmanned ballot box to cast your vote,
you are only asking for trouble.
