net-tools, which contains "traditional" tools like ifconfig and netstat, has been deprecated[1] a long time ago. Me, personally, I've adopted the use of iproute2 tools also quite some years ago, except for one thing: netstat. ss, the netstat replacement, used to have a really annoying output format. That's what I remember, at least. Today, the output of ss is well formatted, convenient, and actually easier to read than that of netstat. I haven't looked up when this changed or if this changed at all. Maybe I don't remember it correctly. Either way, net-tools just got removed from my machines. netstat was the last tool I used from that suite. ____________________ Yeah, just checked with some older Ubuntu 16.04. The output was really bad back then, especially when using the "-p" flag. IPv6 addresses now always have brackets around them. If they are link- local, ss shows the interface. So, my memory was correct. ss's output *was* pretty bad, but they sure did improve it. Nice! ____________________ 1. https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/03/msg00780.html
