Been playing around with Gnome 3 a little bit. (That's where my 32GiB RAM come in handy -- I used overqemu[1] and *everything*, even the VM's hard drive, was completely in RAM.) I noticed that they don't provide the ability to minimize programs anymore. That's funny because my dwm doesn't allow that, either. I fully embraced the concept of workspaces (yeah, I don't use them as tags) and so did the Gnome people. I like that. Gnome 3 actually looks good. It was a bit strange at first because all the GUI applications are so minimalistic -- I'm used to full-blown, bloated GUI apps. What the Gnome people did, is not that bad, I think. Well, as far as usability is concerned. I guess it's a total mess under the hood, but the average user doesn't care about that. So, if you're not a nerd, Gnome 3 might actually work very well for you. ____________________ I tried to extend wepsyte[2] to become a real browser. Yeah, no. For now, it's too much work for too little benefit. When the "real" browsers become completely unusable, I'll think about writing my own browser again. But today, I can live with Firefox. ____________________ When I bought my current workstation, I took care to get a case with a lot of dust filters. These things do a great job. :-) ____________________ 1. https://github.com/vain/bin-pub/blob/master/overqemu 2. https://github.com/vain/bin-pub/blob/master/wepsyte
