HN was always a tad smelly and I avoided the comment section like the
plague. However, ever since ~50% of the postings where kind of
fuckmith-related, the only way for me to read the feed was reading
https://hn-ai.org/ instead. But even with “minus AI” so much
fucksmithery slipped past the regex and today I finally removed the HN
RSS feed from my aggregator. Really, I couldn’t stand it anymore.
But I realized I started reading /. again instead… :-)

oh my, slashdot. I still miss the spanish incarnation we had,
“barrapunto”. I even had a ‘blog’ there, ~20 years ago…
The expansion of “Web 2.0” and meneame.net (A digg clone) kinda killed
it.
Recently I spent some time reading barrapunto via archive.org, and
even mailed some people I met there, that later became my coworkers :)
.. Small world…

HN used to be great - and the comments quality was insane, you’d get
people with actual first hand knowledge about a lot of UNIX stuff and
so on.
But those people retired, and starting from ~2016 it went off a cliff,
ideologically speaking. It’s terrible.
