(???) OFF-SCRIPT(1) OFF-SCRIPT(1) (???) NAME (???) off-script - making half the web unusuable (???) DESCRIPTION (???) the simplest solution can cause the most friction. some- (???) times this friction is good: making things difficult in- (???) hibits its use. using something less simple can allow for (???) customization, but that can also allow for backsliding into (???) bad habits. (???) the short of it: i disabled javascript in my web (???) browser. (???) like, completely. (???) there are “solutions” one can use, like specific exten- (???) sions ( “noscript”, “ublock”, &etc), but using those gives (???) leeway to re-enable it. to me it seems absurd having some- (???) thing on by default, then blocking it completely except for (???) a select few sites. (???) “on”, except it isn’t, EXCEPT it is for a small number (???) of sites (which will grow over time as more and more is ex- (???) cused). (???) better yet, by turning it off completely you don’t have (???) to navigate this nonsense. here’s how to do it in firefox: (???) 1. visit “about:config”. (???) 2. set “javascript.enabled” to false (???) the great thing about this is that not only will random (???) “smolweb” sites give you shit about it (despite it not (???) breaking their site), but pretty much every “social media” (???) site will not work (including almost every “fediverse” (???) site). (???) this also prevents google from functioning. (???) TL;DR (???) turn off javascript and useless sites can no longer (???) function. (???) Page 1 STX 20251006
