-- 0036 UTC So, on the downhill now of being sick. Should be good enough for work tomorrow, as I slept most of the day today. Yesterday, I helped old dog outside twice, and after each time? I crashed on the couch, and slept. Today? Took her outside in the morning, and same thing. This evening? Felt not too bad. About taking "old dog" outside, she's up there in years. 14 if we were to guess. Guessing is as best as we can do, because she was an adult dog when we adopted her from the SPCA. They told us "2 years old", but when we adopted her, she already had a bit of gray starting on the muzzle. She also had a rough start in life: Mill dog, heart worms when we got her, busted up knee, etc etc. Regardless, the years are catching up to her now. She's lost most use of back legs. She's not strong enough to keep them together on smooth floors but usually, when she gets up, she's ok. Can't get up stairs, though. So I'm hefting her up the stairs after poddying, and have to stay out there to supervise her when she's outside, in case she can't get up. We understand there's not much time left with her at this point. I'm guessing a few more months, maybe half a year, before her quality of life tanks. The wife and I intend to ensure she has the best last few months, though. I'll probably take her camping one more time. Maybe a nice, gentle hike, or two. -- 1810 UTC So, yeah. Finally "not sick". Well, healthy enough to go back to work, and not feel like death. Probably going to hit up the gym today too. It's been almost a week, due to being sick, and work, and etc etc. Plus, this weather makes it nigh impossible to go for a run outdoors. Going to flip the laptop I have on ElementaryOS to Manjaro this weekend, hopefully. After experimenting with Manjaro on my crash box, I'm sold. Ready to take the dive. I was an i3 advocate for a long time, but decided to tinker with other WM's, and figured I'd test out Enlightenment for the first time in a number of years. Man! Have things changed! Enlightenment is my new favorite DE (For now). It's highly elegant, has tiling mode for windows, and looks damned great! But, I'm still flopping between WM's, but pretty sure I'm settling on this one. In other news, my oldest son got accepted into two great schools. One is a state school, but still quite good for the programs he's looking to major in, but the other is a very presigious private school. With the state school, it'll be nearly a free ride. With the other, he leaves with large student loans. I tried explaining the pluses and minuses. I'd prefer him go to state, because not having student loans is a god send, and he'd lose the prestige advantage within a few years of getting out of school. But, leaving the decision with him. He's going to shoulder the decision, I feel like it's a part of growing up. We also had a talk with him about how once he turns 18, his responsibilities in the household change. He will be expected to be a fully participating adult in the household. He can, of course, stay with us, for as long as needed (Or wanted, I'd prefer him never leave home), but he will be treated as any other adult is treated in the home, which includes assisting with the bills, groceries, etc etc. After all of that, I asked him, "Ya scared yet?" His reply,"Nope." Proud of him.
