* Exported from MasterCook * Basic Shepherds Pie Recipe By : Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Beef Dinner Pies Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 5 lg Sweet potatoes -- quartered 1/4 c Milk 2 tb Butter 1 pn Nutmeg Salt & pepper -- to taste 2 tb Vegetable oil 2 md Onions -- diced 1 Celery rib -- finely chopped 1 md Carrot -- diced 1 ts Dried thyme 1/4 ts Chili flakes 1 lb Lean ground beef 2 c Roast beef -- cooked, diced 3 tb Flour 1/3 c Beef broth 2 tb Tomato paste 2 tb Worcestershire sauce Preheat oven to 375°F. Bring large pot of water to a boil, cook potatoes until tender, about 20 minutes; drain. Add milk, butter, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to potatoes and mash until smooth and fluffy. Saute onions, carrot, and celery in oil over medium heat for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with thyme and chili flakes. Add ground beef, and cook until no longer pink. Stir in roast beef, sprinkle with flour, then pour in beef broth, tomato paste, worcestershire sauce, salt & pepper; stir well. Reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes. Spread meat mixture in a square casserole, spread mashed potatoes over top and bake 35 to 45 minutes until heated through. Place under broiler for 1 minute. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
