                      Mexican Beef And Mushroom Stew

   2      lb            Round steak -- fat trimmed,
                        - cubed 1"
   1      c             Onions -- chopped
   1      cl            Garlic -- minced
   2      tb            Butter
   1      c             Water
     1/2  ts            Salt -- if desired
     1/4  ts            Chili powder
  12      oz            Whole mushrooms (2 jars) --
                        - undrained *
   1 1/2  c             Mild picante sauce (12 oz)
   3      c             Cooked rice -- hot
   1      c             Sour cream
   1      c             Taco seasoned cheese or
                        - cheddar cheese -- shredded

In Dutch oven, brown round steak with conions and garlic in butter.
Stir in water, salt, chili powder, mushrooms, and picante sauce.
Simmer, uncovered over Medium-Low heat for 1-1/2-2 hours or until
meat is tender.

Serve over rice. Top with sour cream and cheese.
