     1/2  C.            ketchup
     1/2  C.            light or dark corn syrup
     1/4  C.            soy sauce
   2      Cloves        garlic -- minced or pressed
     1/2  Tsp.          anise seed
     1/2  Tsp.          ground cinnamon
     1/4  Tsp.          pepper
     1/8  Tsp.          ground cloves

In small bowl, stir together ketchup, corn syrup, soy
sauce, garlic, anise seed, cinnamon, pepper and cloves until
well blended. Brush on chicken, pork chops, spareribs or steak
during last 20 minutes of grilling, turning and basting fre- 
quently with sauce. Makes 1 1/2 cups sauce.
