* Exported from MasterCook * Scottish Brown Bread Recipe By : Scottish Teatime Recipes booklet Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Cakes Scottish Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 6 oz Wholemeal flour 4 oz White flour 1 tb Golden syrup 1/4 pt Milk 1 ts Bicarbonate of soda 1 ts Cream of tartar 1 pn Salt Set oven to 325 F or Mark 3. Grease a 1 pound loaf tin. Mix the flours, salt, bicarbonate of soda, and cream of tartar together in a bowl. Add the golden syrup and mix with sufficient of the milk to form a soft dough. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead very gently. Place in the tin and cover with foil. Bake for about 50 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for a further 10 minutes until the top is nicely browned. Turn out on to a wire rack to cool. Eat at once.
