* Exported from MasterCook * English Chocolate Cake Recipe By : Nadine Newton Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Cakes Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- Cake: 7 oz Self raising flour 8 oz Castor sugar 3/4 ts Salt 2 tb Cocoa powder 4 oz Butter 2 Eggs -- beaten 5 tb Milk 5 tb Water 1 ts Vannila essence Icing: 2 1/2 oz Butter 4 tb Cocoa powder 8 oz Icing sugar -- sifted 3 tb Milk -- hot 1 ts Vanilla essence Cake: Sift flour, sugar, salt, and cocoa. Rub in butter. Stir in eggs, essence, and liquids; beat well. Grease and flour two 8" cake tins, divide mixture between them. Bake in a moderate oven 325 to 350 F, Gas mark 3 to 4, for about 35 minutes. Allow to cool. Chocolate Icing: Melt butter, blending in cocoa, then stir in icing sugar, milk, and essence. Beat until smooth, thick and the correct consistency to fill and ice the cake. It's really nice warmed in a microwave oven and served with cream. Happy eating. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
