* Exported from MasterCook * Dad's Yeast-Starter Mixture Recipe By : Uncle John's Original Bread Book - John Rahn Braue Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Breads Yeast And Starters Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/2 lb Hops 1 ga Water 1/2 lb Fine malt powder 1/2 lb Brown sugar As Dad used to say, "Ja wohl, to pbegin der yeast..." In one gallon of water boil the hops for half an hour. Strain and stir in the malt flour. Then strain this mixture through a coarse cloth and boil for about 10 minutes. Let the mixture rest until lukewarm, then stir in the brown sugar. Remove mixture to a jug and keep in a warm place for working.
