* Exported from MasterCook * Portuguese Sweet Bread Recipe By : Betty Crocker International Cookbook Serving Size : 24 Preparation Time :4:00 Categories : Pastries & Sweet Breads Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- Bread: 2 Env yeast 1/4 c Water -- warm 1 c Milk -- warmed 3/4 c Sugar 1 ts Salt 3 Eggs 1/2 c Butter 6 c Flour 1 Egg 1 ts Sugar Prepare bread ingredients as usual for any yeast bread. Cover and let rise 2 hours. Punch down, divide in half and roll each half into a rope. Coil each rope into 2 snail shapes, cover and rise again for 1 hour. Brush with egg and sprinkle with sugar, bake in a 350 F oven for 35 to 45 minutes. Notes: Loaves can be shaped into 2 flat rounds if desired. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
