Background I saw Nerf N-Strike on sale for $19.99 at Best Buy, so I decided to pick it up, especially considering it came with a real Nerf gun. I wasn't very impressed with the game, even though I had rather low expectations. There are two main reasons I am writing this guide. First, I enjoy both writing and video games, so mixing the two and writing FAQs has become quite a fun hobby for me. Second, there aren't any FAQs or walkthroughs currently in existence for this game. If you want to check out any other guides I've written, check out: Battleship for NES TimeSplitters 2 for GameCube Chips Challenge for PC If you would like to contact me about anything video game related, or have hints/tips/suggestions about this game or this guide, please feel free to email me at the address listed at the beginning of this guide. Specifically any tips on how to earn gold medals on any challenges would be great! OK, so on with the walkthrough! ============================================================================ II. Introduction Nerf N-Strike places you as the character of Shane. The games starts as a rail shooter with a Nerf gun, and it doesn't matter how far you get. After you are killed, the game starts a narrative where Shane is recruited by B.O.B. (a robot) to become a Nerf Elite Striker and to test out top secret new guns. There you will challenge four other elite testers. Komodo, Jackal, Raven, and Tango will have to be defeated in order for Shane to become the number one elite striker. ============================================================================ III. Guns There are 3 different ways to acquire guns. Some of the guns are already unlocked and available for you to use when you first turn on the game. Other guns must be unlocked during the course of play. The way to unlock them is to use them (when they are made available) in specific challenges and win the challenge. The third way to unlock guns is via codes. Those codes are listed near the end of this walkthrough. A lot of guns have the exact same specs, which I think is kinda lame. Walkthrough A. Komodo You start in Komodo's section, with 4 challenges available and a 5th one locked. There is also a blasting range where you can try out any of the guns you have unlocked. I will go through the missions numerically, even though they can be done out of order. (NOTE: an asterisk (*) next to any of the gun names means that it is a new gun available to unlock in that specific challenge) Mission 1: Pummel Available Guns: Vulcan EBF-25, Titan AS-V, LongShot CS-6, Raider CS-6* Scores: Score to Beat - 10000 Bronze - 10000 Silver - 20000 Gold - 25000 The goal of this challenge is to knock all the blocks off of the platform except for the gold blocks. There are many different kinds of blocks in this game. Bomb blocks explode and send other blocks near them flying. Yellow blocks with green X's expand to four times their size when you shoot them, making them more difficult to get off the platform. Green blocks shrink to blocks 1/4 their original size, making them easier to get off the platform. Blue ? blocks disappear when you shoot them. As far as I can tell, it doesn't matter if you leave one gold block of four gold blocks left on the platform. Therefore, fire away as fast as you can to get rid of all the other blocks, and if you accidentally knock off one or two gold blocks, don't worry about it. Another hint to increase your score in this challenge is to fire at the bomb blocks as soon as possible. Their explosions will send plenty of other blocks flying and leave you less of a mess. The number one hint on this challenge is simply to go as fast as possible. Time is money........er.......points. I recommend the Vulcan EBF-25. Mission 2: Onslaught Available Guns: Vulcan, Titan, Longshot, Crusher SAD-6* Scores: Score to Beat - 35000 Bronze - 35000 Silver - 200000 Gold - 450000 Welcome to the most boring challenge ever. But get used to it, there are at least 4 more versions of it. Anyway, the goal is to blast all the robot enemies. After a few minutes, a robot will fly in with a gold, white, and blue block that advances you to the next round. There are also green triangles that restore your shield, red blocks that give you explosive darts, orange blocks with skulls that give you super darts, blue boxes with 5000 written on them that give you **shockingly* 5000 pts, and pink boxes with 3X on them that triple the score you get for the next 15 seconds or so. There are 4 rounds in this game. Every time you shoot a goal block it will take you to the next round and your shield will be refilled. If you are going for the gold, you have to ignore the goal blocks entirely. Make sure you don't hit them, or else you won't have the time to rack up the high scores. Twice in the first round, a 3X block will appear right before one (or more!) 5000 blocks. Make sure to get the 3X block first, and turn each of the 5000 blocks into 15000 points. At the end of the 2nd round, several 5000 blocks come up right at the end, make sure to get all these. I played through the entire round, never hitting one goal block, and I got about 420000 points. My guess is that if I had been more accurate, some of my shots would have been doubled and that's how I could have picked up another 30000. However, like I said this is by far the most boring challenge and on top of that the only reason I'm writing this guide is because there isn't currently one on GameFAQs. Therefore, I won't be trying this level again to get a gold medal. If anyone has gotten a gold medal on this (or any) Onslaught level, feel free to email me about any tips on how to get gold. I will gladly give you credit. Mission 3: Commandeer Available Guns: Vulcan, Crusher, Spartan NCS-12* Scores: Score to Beat - 8000 Bronze - 8000 Silver - 12000 Gold - 17000 You are presented with a platform filled with gray balls. You need to blast the balls four times to turn them completely gold and blow them up. There is also a spray can at the top that is very useful. It sprays gold paint in the middle of the platform every time it is shot. When balls are in the middle, shoot the spray can to destroy them much quicker. When going for a high score, time is again a factor in this challenge. Destroy the balls as fast as you can. The balls change back if they are hit once but then not hit again after a few seconds. Finish what you start and destroy the balls you hit. Use the spray can as much as possible, mainly when the balls are a little bit above the middle of the platform. I don't know why but that is where the spray is most effective. Mission 4: Standoff Available Guns: LongShot CS-6 Scores: Score to Beat - 25000 Bronze - 25000 Silver - 45000 Gold - 60000 The goal in this challenge is to shoot a certain colored robot, depending on what B.O.B. tells you to do. If you shoot the wrong colored robot or if you miss too many shots, they will start firing back, but it isn't much of a concern. Replay the level a few times and you can probably earn a gold medal. I'm not sure if time is factored into the scoring, but I don't think so because the way points are calculated is not shown on the screen. Again, if you make multiple shots in a row, I believe you will get multiples of the points you would earn. So be precise with your shots. Mission 5: Robot Reaction Available Guns: Vulcan, Titan, Spartan, Maverick REV-6, Raider, Vengeance REV-8* Scores: Score to Beat - 35000 Bronze - 35000 Silver - 60000 Gold - 90000 A quick cutscene of B.O.B. giving Komodo a pep talk before you take him to school. In this challenge you simply blast the robots as quickly as possible. To preserve time, as soon as you finish blasting the robots, aim at the bottom of the screen, then use this break time to reload. This guide is already getting redundant, and it will get even more redundant as it goes along. I'm not sure how the scoring works on this one either. I'm sure accuracy has something to do with it and it's possible time does as well. I'm not sure if the amount of health you have left factors into anything. I recommend firing at the biggest robot on screen first and then work your way down to the smaller ones. After you beat this challenge a new door opens. This one allows you to move onto the next chamber. You can either go through this door, watch a new scene, and then begin the next chamber, OR you can stay in this chamber and redo some of Komodo's challenges. For the sake of moving this walkthrough along, let's assume you've moved to the next chamber. (NOTE: As far as I know, there is NO WAY to go back to Komodo's chamber if you leave. To me this is a huge error by the creators to make it that we can't go back and try for better scores. If there is a way to go back, please email me with the info) B. Jackal And you thought Komodo's voice was annoying. Jackal's chamber looks EXACTLY like Komodo's except it's blue. It has 4 challenges that can be done in any order, a 5th one that is locked, and another door that is locked. Mission 1: Onslaught Eclipse Available Guns: Vulcan, Spartan Scores: Score to Beat - 60000 Bronze - 60000 Silver - 250000 Gold - 475000 Another Onslaught, except this time IN THE DARK!!! Anyway, exact same standards apply. The goal is to blast all the robot enemies. This one is significantly tougher than the first one, but there are plenty of health power-ups to aid you. Consequently, it's also not all that dark. Anyway, as I said before I don't like these challenges and have no gold medal tips for you, other than be accurate, avoid goal boxes like the plague, and get all the 3X and 5000 pt power-ups. However, I will take this chance to rant about my LEAST FAVORITE robot. It is a silver thing with a blue light in the middle that is shaped like a shield. When it opens up and fires darts at you, the blue light turns orange. This thing is such a pain in the ass because you have no idea if you hit it or not. It looks like you hit it, but it doesn't go down. And then you think you hit it again, and it still doesn't die. And even when it finally dies, it takes a slow path to the ground. You don't know it's dead until it explodes on the ground. I hate this robot. He is lame. Mission 2: LookAlive Available Guns: Longshot, RedShift CS-12* Scores: Score to Beat - 30000 Bronze - 30000 Silver - 50000 Gold - 80000 This is the first rail shooter since the very beginning of the game. Pretty basic scheme, just shoot the robots. And avoid shooting B.O.B., who annoyingly hovers in the way pretty much the entire level. Keep an eye out Shield Regenerators, which will refill your shield and give you a better chance to make it to the end. Getting gold here shouldn't prove to be too difficult. Play the level a few times and get a feel of where the robots come from and where the shield regenerators are. This should also help improve your accuracy in the level. Also, remember not to shoot B.O.B. cuz that little punk isn't afraid to shoot back. What an Ass! Mission 3: Blockade Available Guns: Vengeance REV-8, Titan Scores: Score to Beat - 15000 Bronze - 15000 Silver - 75000 Gold - 140000 Similar to the very first game Pummel. Except instead of blasting all the blocks except the goal blocks off, you are trying to destroy all the blocks besides the goal block to rack up points. Or simply find the goal block if your only desire is to beat the level. The gold boxes with red Xs are multipliers. Hit these first to get a multiplier added to your score, which will help your overall total. Also, do your best not to bump your goal block off of the platform. Doing this ends the round with you getting no additional points. To me, these blocks bounce pretty randomly. So be careful whenever aiming for a block near a goal block. Do your best to take out every single block before the goal block and make sure your multiplier is at 5X before you start firing at any gray blocks. There are 8 total rounds, but it will be a challenge to get gold here. Mission 4: Recognition Available Guns: Vulcan, Titan, Spartan, Maverick, Vengeance, Raider, Recon CS-6* Scores: Score to Beat - 15000 Bronze - 15000 Silver - 25000 Gold - 35000 Destroy the color of robots that B.O.B tells you to destroy. This is pretty much a mix of StandOff and Robot Reaction from Komodo's chamber. It's also pretty easy. In the first round you are given 12 seconds, then 10, 8, and 6 as the rounds progress to blast the specified robots. I got gold my very first time on this one using the Recon CS-6. Keep accuracy up and you really shouldn't have much of a problem raking in the points on this one. Mission 5: Magnospheres Available Guns: Vulcan, Spartan, Vengeance, Crusher Scores: Score to Beat - 15000 Bronze - 15000 Silver - 25000 Gold - 40000 B.O.B. tells Jackal that you are working for the enemy and that you are a double agent. This makes NO sense since I wouldn't even know who to think an enemy to a Nerf gun tester would be. Ever wanted to play soccer with a gun? Now is your chance. Shoot the balls into the goal (preferably the 2X goal if you want to rack up the point) as fast as you can. The blue balls (hehe) are worth 100, silver balls 500 and gold balls 1000. There are also bumpers on the very near side of the platform, but I never really use them. When shot, the blue spheres move faster than the silver ones, which move faster than the gold ones. While it is important to get as many as you can in the 2X one, make sure to get them all in as fast as possible, even if you have to shove a lot in the 1X goals. This is because you get a time bonus for however quickly you finish a round. This is particularly true in the forth round as the platform moves, making it even harder to score in the 2X goal. I like to use the Crusher on this challenge because it doesn't ever need to be reloaded. As with the last challenge, I got gold the first time I played this one. That should be a good sign that gold shouldn't be to difficult in this level. Now let's move on to Raven. C. Raven Another chamber (purple this time) with four open challenges, one locked one, a blasting range, and another locked door that leads to the next chamber. Mission 1: Pummel Elite Available Guns: Vulcan, Titan, Longshot, Raider, Vengeance, Crusher, Goliathan UB-1* Scores: Score to Beat - 10000 Bronze - 10000 Silver - 15000 Gold - 20000 This challenge is exactly like the very first mission Pummel except it is a little more challenging. Keep at least one of your goal blocks on the platform while getting rid of all the other blocks. When trying to get gold on this challenge, I would recommend using a gun like the Vulcan. When using the Goliathan UB-1 to try and unlock it, this challenge can become quite a pain. You need to make precise shots with the Goliathan as to not send your gold blocks flying. But you also have to battle the clock. Best of luck. Mission 2: Recognition Elite Available Guns: Goliathan, Vulcan, Titan, Spartan, Maverick, Recon, Vengeance, Raider, Stampede REV-12* Scores: Score to Beat - 15000 Bronze - 15000 Silver - 25000 Gold - 35000 Destroy the color of robots that B.O.B tells you to destroy. This is pretty much a mix of StandOff and Robot Reaction from Komodo's chamber. It's also pretty easy. This time you only get 10 seconds in the first round, 7 in the second, 8 in the third and fourth rounds (two colors). Also, you have to wait for the robots to turn around before you can verify their colors and shoot them. Make sure you shoot the right colors, because they pack a mean punch if you get shot back. One dart from them can take 1/3 of your power. Also try your best to take down all the specific color you are given. If you don't, they are also prone to firing at you. I recommend taking out the bigger robots first, as their darts are much stronger. After you have settled their hash, take out the smaller ones. Sometimes you can tell what color the robot is before he turns around. By doing this you know exactly where to aim which should both improve accuracy and save time. Try doing this to get a better score. Mission 3: Onslaught Elite Available Guns: Goliathan, LongShot, Vulcan, Titan, Spartan, Stampede, Vengeance, Crusher, BullSharc GL-8* Scores: Score to Beat - 90000 Bronze - 90000 Silver - 250000 Gold - 500000 Onslaught again, this time tougher. Here are the rules for a third time. The goal is to blast all the robot enemies. Unlocking the BullSharc GL-8 (EVERYBODY OUT OF THE WATER) is fairly difficult due to its slow firing rate and the fact that it can only hold 16 grenades. It's much easier to beat this level with the Vulcan or Crusher because of much higher firing rates. If you are trying to unlock the BullSharc, remember to pick up ever shield regeneration power-up and to shoot the first goal block you see. If you are going for gold, best of luck. I would recommend the Crusher but that's all the help I can provide. Mission 4: Commandeer Elite Available Guns: Vulcan, Spartan, Crusher Scores: Score to Beat - 8000 Bronze - 8000 Silver - 12000 Gold - 17500 You are presented with a platform filled with gray balls. You need to blast the balls four times to turn them completely gold and blow them up. There is also a spray can at the top that is very useful. It sprays gold paint in the middle of the platform every time it is shot. When balls are in the middle, shoot the spray can to destroy them much quicker. This elite challenge has a new feature, eraser spheres. These are the black and red spheres, and you want to avoid shooting them because they will erase whatever work you have done on the spheres around it. When trying for gold, I recommend using one of my favorite guns, the Vulcan. It has a faster firing rate than the Crusher and I feel like it has far better accuracy. This makes up for the fact that the Vulcan will need to be reloaded. Mission 5: StandOff Elite Available Guns: LongShot, Redshift Scores: Score to Beat - 25000 Bronze - 25000 Silver - 30000 Gold - 40000 The goal in this challenge is to shoot a certain colored robot, depending on what B.O.B. tells you to do. If you shoot the wrong colored robot or if you miss too many shots, they will start firing back. This challenge really shouldn't be too difficult. This StandOff provides more of a challenge because you have to wait for the robots to turn around before you can verify their colors and fire on them. Try to figure out which colors are where before they turn (which can be difficult depending on the angle), and then take them down quickly so they don't start firing on you. Make sure to fire on the first eligible robot that turns, so he doesn't get a chance to turn back around. D. Tango New chamber, now green, same doors, blah blah blah Mission 1: Robot Void Available Guns: Vulcan, Spartan, Recon, Vengeance, Firefly REV-8* Scores: Score to Beat - 75000 Bronze - 75000 Silver - 120000 Gold - 140000 Very similar to Robot Reaction from Komodo's chamber except with a lot more robots. Remember to take out the biggest ones first, than the medium sized ones, then the smaller ones. Aim at the "heads" of the big ones and you will have a chance to take them down in one or two shots. Aim at the bottom of the screen as soon as you finish clearing out all the robots. There are four rounds, but none should prove too challenging as long as you are taking down robots as fast as possible. For a gold, improve your accuracy even if it means taking a few more hits. Mission 2: LookAlive Elite Available Guns: Longshot, RedShift Scores: Score to Beat - 40000 Bronze - 40000 Silver - 80000 Gold - 120000 The same as Jackal's second mission except more challenging, obviously. It's a rail shooter where you simply take down robots. Remember not to hit B.O.B. because he will fire back ferociously. Although he deserves to be blasted for hovering right in the line of fire. Again, aim for the heads of the bigger robots to try and obtain one-hit kills. After you leave the big room where you are walking or rafters there will be a shield regenerator. You will quickly look to the right and it will be between some of the boxes. Make sure to pick it up or you may not survive until the end. But by making it to the end you should almost have a gold score, I know I had over 160000 the first time I beat it. Mission 3: Blockade Elite Available Guns: Goliathan, Titan, Vengeance, Hydra SG-7* Scores: Score to Beat - 15000 Bronze - 15000 Silver - 60000 Gold - 100000 We originally saw Blockade in Jackal's third mission. The blue stands and the square platforms can be blown away, which help send the blocks tumbling if you are just looking for the goal block. I like to shoot at these first. I also like to use the Hydra because it blasts so many darts at once and don't get a whole lot of time in these challenges. Mission 4: Magnospheres Elite Available Guns: Goliathan, Vulcan, Spartan, Hydra, Vengeance, Crusher Scores: Score to Beat - 20000 Bronze - 20000 Silver - 30000 Gold - 50000 Just like the first Magnospheres soccer game except with more balls and a much shakier floor. Again, blue is worth 100, silver 500, and gold 1000. Don't forget about the 2X goal in the middle that will help improve your score. There are also a lot more red spheres in this one, that just explode when you shoot them. I don't know what they are there for, other than maybe just to get in the way. I like using the Vulcan on this one because of its quick firing rate and accuracy. Make sure to get all the spheres in as quickly as possible, even if it is just in the 1X goal, because the time bonus in this challenge is also pretty important to your final score. Mission 5: Onslaught Eclipse Elite Available Guns: Vulcan, Hydra, Firefly, Spartan, SemperFire RF-200* Scores: Score to Beat - 100000 Bronze - 100000 Silver - 500000 Gold - 800000 For the fourth time, the goal is to blast all the robot enemies. This is definitely the most fun of the four Onslaught challenges because the SemperFire is now available. This thing holds 200 darts and has a huge firing rate. It's kinda fun blasting robots with this massive thing. Again, to get gold don't shoot any of the goal blocks. Pick up all the 3X and 5000 pt blocks (preferably in that order) and keep an eye on your shield as not to die. Also, focus on accuracy, which is something the SemperFire doesn't really promote. E. Final Challenge Revolt of the Machines In a SHOCKING and MIND-BOGGLING twist, it's the Revolt of the Machines. Turns out B.O.B. was evil. How was I to know?!?!?!?! This is basically the same rail shooter as in the beginning of the game, except you can't die here or you will lose and it doesn't automatically kill you either. You don't get to pick your guns at all, rather you pick them up randomly as you walk along the rails. This kinda sucks because you get stuck with some average guns in tough situations. Remember to shoot all the bigger robots in the "head" to try and take them down in one shot. Don't worry too much about accuracy in this level though, just try to take down the robots as fast as possible. The ultimate key to beating this level is to pick up all the shield regenerators you can. The first one is a little ways through the level. You will walk down the hall and a few robot "birds" will fly by you. You keep going straight and the door will close on you, so you turn around and there are a few robots you have to kill. After that, you will move forward and quickly look left down the hall, where the first shield regenerator is. You have to be fast, but make sure to shoot it. The second one is in the big room with the metal rafters. After you come down from the rafters, walk to the other side, and ride the elevator up, you will see it on the bottom left side of the screen. This one is a lot easier to get. The third one is in the big room that looks like the Onslaught room. As soon as you enter, you will see it in the bottom right corner. If you don't want to pick it up right away that is fine you will have a few chances to, but even if you do you should be okay until the next one shows up. The fourth and fifth ones are in the final big room. You will walk in and look at them, but do not get either one of them yet, unless you are very close to dying. Take out the next few robots until you are ready to jump down to the large platform in the middle. When you are doing this, pick up the one on the right. Now it's time for the final challenge with B.O.B. He will float around and simply shoot him the best you can. Try to drill him right in the red spot, although this can be difficult with the P.O.S. gun you are given. B.O.B. floats back and forth, and when you are given the chance to pick up the other shield regenerator, do so. This should give you the edge to defeating him. This fight can be difficult, so give it a few tries. After you beat B.O.B., you have beaten the game. Yay! ============================================================================ V. Multiplayer Multiplayer may be the most fun part of this game, if you can fine someone to play with. It features all 20 challenges from the solo game and also includes the two Revolt of the Machine challenges where both players play on the screen at the same time. Some of these challenges can make for good competition when you are playing against another good player. Ideally, you would be able to play these challenges online, but not surprisingly that was not included. You can select up to 10 challenges to compete in, with the winner of the challenge usually getting 5 points and the loser getting 3. Match points are added up at the end of all the challenges and a winner emerges. When playing multiplayer, a lot of added strategy is created. Maybe the creators should have thought of this and had the solo missions be against actual people against actual scores. One drawback about multiplayer is that one of the players will have to play with just the Wii Remote rather than a handheld gun (unless you want to spring for another Nerf gun). This makes no difference in gameplay, but it is just more fun to fire with the Wii gun. A lot of the challenges even let both players compete at the same time, creating even more fun. In my opinion, the multiplayer is probably the best and most well-thought-out area of this game. ============================================================================ VI. Free Play There really isn't much to say about the Free Play mode. You can go back and play all the games you have already unlocked and use any guns already unlocked that are available for that specific game. You get scored on these levels, but it isn't compared to any other score, nor does it save your high score. So the only reason to go back and replay these games is if there was one specific game that you really enjoyed. Or you might want to go redo a lot of the levels with the massively awesome SemperFire after you have unlocked it. Other than that this is a pretty useless feature in the game. ============================================================================ VII. FAQs I haven't actually received any questions about this walkthrough. But here are some questions that pop into my mind, and answers to them. Q: Can I go back to previous chambers after I have beaten them to unlock guns/try to get all gold medals? A: I haven't figured out a way to. It doesn't seem like the creators would be so dumb as to not include a way to replay old missions, but as of right now either they or I are complete idiots cuz I don't know how to do it. If you know how, please email me. Q: Is anything unlocked for getting all gold medals? A: I have no idea. I don't really like this game and haven't spent a whole lot of time replaying it. The first time I beat it, I wasn't even close to all golds. Again, if you know the answer to this question please let me know. Q: B.O.B. says he is initiating phase two at the end of the game after I beat it. What does that mean? A: My guess would be that it is a sign a sequel to this game will be made. I went back and re-played the first few levels after I beat it the first time, and nothing was different. Not even the scores for beating the level. Q: This is the greatest guide I have ever seen. I would like to pay you hundreds of thousands of dollars to write for my company. Will you sell out? A: In a heartbeat. Please email me and tell me where to sign! ============================================================================ IX.
