cormorant 212) White pelican PAGE 41 213) White mother PAGE 42 214) Magu tapah ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) How do you get their details? A) In general, just rub them until they sparkle as shown in the training at the start of the game. At this point you can see its name and basic info. Further details can be found out by rubbing it again on future days (or you can just save and quite and then load again...), until all 3 pieces of information are complete. If rubbing doesn't work, try feeding the creature. Dolphins like your whistle, too. A few very stubborn fishes in the Abyss still won't budge, namely: * Fanfin * Pelican eel * Bluntnose sixgill shark Being in the dark, these guys like bright colours so get their details by drawing all around them with your underwater pen to make them sparkle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) Do you get anything for finding them all? A) Once you have all three pieces of information for all 214 creatures (yes, that's 642 entries!) Catherine approaches you with a special message: "I really can't believe that you actually did it. You've surveyed every species in the Manaurai area. It's simply amazing! Beside the fact that nobody has ever done this before, it looks like there's a new specialist in town. Which reminds me... I received a call from the aquarium to say that they've managed to aquire a White Mother specimen. Problem is, everyone thought it was a myth up until now, so there aren't any resident specialists there! Currently, the most well-versed person seems to be you and the aquarium would be grateful for your expertise. I'll handle the introductions, you get to the aquarium." This unlocks White Mother in the aquarium, so now you can feel the joy of swimming with four of them at once! OK, so not a fantastic unlockable, but something to aim for at least. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) My game is still set in July, and I haven't found every creature. Do I need to wait until later seasons? A) To get absolutely everything, yes. But in fact, nearly everything can be found in summer in some place or another. The exceptions are: * Japanese flying fish (Page 4, Autumn) * Mahi-mahi (Page 18, Autumn) * Orangespine unicornfish (Page 2, Autumn) * Blackfin barracuda (Page 18, Autumn) * Atlantic bluefin tuna (Page 23, Autumn) * Broadclub cuttlefish (Page 6, Winter) * Blotchy swell shark (Page 16, Winter) Summer is June, July and August. Autumn is September, October and November. Winter is December, January and February. Spring is March, April and May. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) Can every creature be found simply by exploration? A) No, there are some that require certain actions to be completed before they will appear. These are: * White mother (Page 41) * Magu tapah (Page 42) * Orca (Page 32) * Beluga (Page 32) Certain others have related cutscenes when they appear, but can't really be missed if you explore properly! These would be each of the whales and dolphins, and the Whale shark. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) How do I find the White mother? A) Basically just follow the plot and complete the game. Essentially this means: * Complete the training dives at the start to get equipped-up * Explore the Great Aqua Cave (entrance L7) * Explore the Abyss (entrance G7) * Explore the Marige Atoll ruins (entrance D6) * Collect the Pocket-watch and sample from the Abyss, find all the whales * Place the five sensors and then wait for the alert! The Whiet mother appears by the Great Drop-Off This isn't a walkthrough, so I'm not going into too much detail above! Just talk to Catherine if you're stuck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) How do I find Magu tapah? A) You need first to retrieve the Shark's Tooth Necklace, which is an item located at Knives Reef, D5 (top left) on the sand at the bottom of the reef. Once you come back to the boat, Catherine will say: "That looks like a pretty rare item you've found... I think it's a shark-tooth necklace. The shark is a revered animal in many South Pacific countries, and it's the same here in Paoul too. Their ferocity and toughness is often admired, especially by soldiers. The most noted example is the God of Violence and Death who had the form of Magu Tapah, a giant great white. From the size of that tooth, it must have been huge, possibly even something nearing the size of Magu Tapah... Perhaps it'll bring you luck if you wear it?" Magu Tapah appears in the Ocean's Graveyard once this item has been found. To see Magu Tapah, visit the Ocean's Graveyard at night and go to the top-end of the broken ship funnel that's lying next to the ship at H3 (bottom right). A cut-scene will trigger unlocking the beast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) How do I find the Orca? A) Once approximately 90% of the main map has been uncovered, you will receive the following email from Alfred: Email: Strange Ceremony "It seems you ar really throwing yourself into your work recently. Remember to take care of your health - this is your most important resource! That reminds me of a ceremony people in the Paoul Republic have taken part in since time immemorial. They pray to the storm god for good health and even for immortality before a rock shaped like a human face. It's just a superstition, but take note of it anyway. You never know when this information might come in useful." After this email the Life Beads appear in the Underwater Ruins of Marige Atoll, I5 (top right), on the roof of the ruins in front of the 3 heads. Retrieve these, return to the boat and Catherine will say: "Like like you've found some Life Beads. These items are known as "Comma-shaped beads". In Japan, they were used as bodily accessories. They existed her in Paoul too, but according to legend, they belonged to a medium who served Tso, Matah and Wengah, the Gods of storms, calm and war, who decorated her body with them. Tso, Matah and Wengah were said to be the ruler of orcas, and the wearer of these comma-shaped beads would be granted their friendship and protection." Now the Orca (Killer whale) is unlocked and will appear at the Ocean's Graveyard in the daytime swimming around near to the Pirate Ship. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) How do I find the Beluga? A) First three conditions must be satisfied: 1) All areas in the Great Aqua Cave must have been visited. 2) All caves in the Abyss must have been visited. 3) All six of the stone tablets in the Underwater Ruins must have been found. For each of these, the game indicates completion by Catherine telling you the survey is complete and you can return to the boat. Once the conditions are all met, the following email will be received from Alfred: Email: White Dolphin "How are you? I'm sure you are fully acclimatised to Manaurai by now. I am writing because I heard a strange rumour the other day. Apparently, there have been a number of sightings of a mysterious glowing white dolphin by Paoul fishermen who got lost in the area west of Rock Land. If you're interested, perhaps you could investigate. This is the area where the ruins were discovered. Perhaps other secrets are waiting to be uncovered..." After this email is read the Old Bracelet appears in the Gallery of Souls, F4 (top right), on the sandy floor in the main Manaurai sea. Retrieve this, return to the boat and Catherine will say: "Looks like you've found an Old Bracelet. It appears to have some kind of engraving on it. Let me see... The emblem is that of a seven-headed serpent... Which suggests it was once owned by royalty. This reminds me of an old Paoul folk tale about a kingdom long ago that was threatened by a great flood and of a brave prince who could control dolphins using the power of a mysterious bracelet. Anyway, he used it to avert the disaster and all was well. The bracelet in the story was said to be very distinctive, an item truly fit for a king and possessing unique powers. Could this really be the same item? It might be a good idea to wear it, for good luck." Now the Beluga is unlocked and can be found in the small chamber at H7 (bottom left) (that was revealed by flooding the adjacent room) in the Underwater Ruins of Marige Atoll once this item is found. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q) What's the rarest creature? A) Hmm, there are several that spring to mind. The Pygmy seahorse is hard to track down (until you know it's permanently at a certain loacation!), as are the Weedy and Leafy seadragons, and the Sakuradai as they all only like one type of coral. The Sea otter can be easily missed for its size, as can the Kidako moray and Mahi-mahi. The Cinderalla sea slug stumped me for a while, but my vote in the end would have to go for the Isoginpo. It's only in one (small) location, takes a while to get to, and has quite a low probability of appearance. Git. Should be called 'Isogitpo'. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ==================== GUIDE TO MARINE LIFE #1 ==================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *************** Coral Reef Life #01 *************** ====== Page 1 ====== LHS 1) Oriental butterflyfish Chaetodon auripes A narrow fish with an oval-shaped body, protruding snout and a length of 20cm. Balaenoptera sp
With a length of 30m, this whale appears in the ancient legends told in
Manaurai. Bigger even than the blue whale, it is thought to be the biggest
creature on the planet. Its body is a divine pure white, without a single
blemish. Can be seen in the vicinity of the Great Drop-off.

The external appearance of this creature is that of a blue whale, yet its DNA
is slightly different which strongly suggests that this could be a new species
altogether. Its body isn't white due to any deformity, but is naturally
coloured. Despite its colossal size, the habits of this creature remain
unknown due to no specimens having ever been discovered.

The ancient legends passed down generations say that this white whale is the
protector of the seas around Manaurai. All residents, from children to adults
know of these legends and regard this whale as an object of faith. With no
recorded sightings, the creature itself was considered to be a fictitious,
mythological beast for a long time.

Ocean's Graveyard all year round.

Innumerable scars cover its body as the result of numerous vicious battles. It
bears a wound made by either a harpoon or a spear, but there's no telling how
old it is. It's probably a good idea to avoid giving it a reason to attack.

According to the Paoul myth, he was the youngest of six sons of the goddess
"White Mother" and a great leader who brought unity to the many soldiers of the
land. Unfortunately, he ignored his people due to greed and was banished by
the head god to the stagnant ocean. Tsi Matah Wengah, an unruly god, was
entrusted with ensuring that the violent god of death didn't escape.
