This handy text document will tell you how to play this game, the game modes with ASCII diagrams on the patterns of the traffic, and hints and tips. I am playing this game from the Activision Anthology on the PlayStation 2, and I am hoping that the version that I am using is the same as the normal one that was released. =============================================================================== TABLE OF CONTENTS =============================================================================== 1. Version History 2. Game Overview 3. Hints and Tips 4. Conclusion and Special Thanks =============================================================================== 1. VERSION HISTORY =============================================================================== Version 1.1 - 11/06/2004 ------------------------ Updated the FAQ with a less bulky format, which lessons the FAQ size. Version 1.0 - 17/01/2004 ------------------------ The first complete version of this FAQ. Everything is complete. =============================================================================== 2. GAME OVERVIEW =============================================================================== This section is just a look over all things in the game, such as how to play it, the different game types and the controls. Controls -------- Joystick Up and Down - Moves Chicken Up and Down Note that the Left and Right directions, and the Fire Button on the Joystick has no effect on the game. This game can also be played with two players (you need an additional joystick for this of course). Playing the Game ---------------- "Why did the Chicken cross the road?" "To add points to his score!" That's the aim of the game. It is pretty much Frogger, but with a Chicken. Getting across a Freeway. To earn points. Simple, isn't it? Every time you get to the curb on the other side, a point is added to your score. The score counter is at the top of the screen above your chicken. There are two chickens; one of each player. The one of the left is controlled by the controller in Port 1, and the one of the right is controlled by the controller in Port 2. You have 2 minutes and 16 seconds to get as many points as you can. When the score flashes, you will know that you have eight seconds remaining. After the game stops, and the player with the most points wins. You can play a one player game, and aim to get better scores each time. Difficulty ---------- There are two different difficulty settings. You can have different ones per player. Easy - Getting hit by a vehicle sets you back a lane. Hard - Getting hit by a vehicle puts you back to the beginning. Game Types ---------- There are eight game types available. The first four games are different levels that have different amounts and speeds of traffic. Games five to eight are repeats of games one to four, but the traffic increase and decrease in speed at random, adding more difficulty to the proceedings. For games one to four, I will provide an ASCII diagram and a description on the speeds and patterns. A key for his is as follows - # - Number of the lane. > - Direction and Speed. One arrow is very slow, whereas 5 arrows is very fast. O - An Automobile. When there are several shown, that's it's pattern. Game 1 - Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, 3AM --------------------------------------- Only automobiles here, and the traffic is rather thin. The speeds are overall slow, but the lanes at the center (5 and 6) are the quickest, and it goes slower outward toward the curbs. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 10 < O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 9 << O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 8 <<< O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 7 <<<< O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 6 <<<<< O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ 5 >>>>> O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 4 >>>> O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 3 >>> O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 2 >> O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 1 > O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ This game is easy apart from lanes 5 and 6. Proceed up to lane 4 and analyse the next two fast lanes, then progress past them. The last few lanes are as the traffic is slower. Game 2 - Interstate 5, Seattle, 6AM ----------------------------------- A truck is introduced here, on lane 6 (the bottom of the higher set), however all the others are automobiles still. The speeds increase like they did in the last game (center fastest, slower outward toward the curbs) but lane 5 is notably faster than lane 6. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 10 < O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 9 << O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 8 <<< O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 7 <<<< O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 6 <<<< Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ 5 >>>>> O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 4 >>>> O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 3 >>> O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 2 >> O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 1 > O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Head up to and stay at lane 4 and wait until the next two lanes are clear, then make your way upward. Lane 5 is the fastest, and so you should pay careful attention to it. Game 3 - Santa Monic Freeway, Los Angeles, 10AM ----------------------------------------------- Again there is truck on one of the center lanes (lane 5 this time) and the rest are automobiles. The speed pattern is the same as the last two games (center lanes the fastest, then slower towards each curb). There is a lot more traffic overall in this game, so watch where you step. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 10 < O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 9 << O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 8 <<< O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 7 <<<< O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 6 <<<<< O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ 5 >>>>> Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 4 >>>> O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 3 >>> O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 2 >> O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 1 > O O O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Head across to lanes 1 to 3, and then look at lanes 4 to 7 (which are the fastest). Analyse the speeds and patterns until you can quickly get across at once, as its very dangerous to stay on one of these. Game 4 - Bayshore Freeway, San Francisco, Midnight -------------------------------------------------- Truck-tacular! All the lanes are full of trucks, and with a new speed pattern. The ones on the outside lanes (1 and 5, 6 and 10) are the fastest. The ones next to them (2 and 4, 7 and 9) are half the speed as the outside trucks, and the ones in the middle (3 and 8) are half the speed again. Overall, the speed increases from the center outwards. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 10 <<<<< Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 9 <<< Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 8 < Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 7 <<< Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 6 <<<<< Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ 5 >>>>> Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 4 >>> Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 3 > Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 2 >>> Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 1 >>>>> Truck! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Rest at lanes 3 and 8 where the traffic speed is most lax, otherwise keep on the move otherwise you will become road kill easily. When you begin watch out for the first lane (the initial speed might throw you off guard). Games 5 - 8 ----------- Games 5 to 8 are the same as Games 1 to 4 (so Game 1 is Game 5, Game 2 is Game 6 and so on) with one exception; all the vehicles have random speed increases and decreases. =============================================================================== 3. HINTS AND TIPS =============================================================================== • PRACTICE!! Its obvious, but to get good, you need to play this game aplenty. And if you are playing in two player games and want to become better, playing against better players makes you better in return (although its a one player game anyway, playing against a more opponent oppionent gives you the extra boost to play better). • Learn the patterns and different games. Look at the above section for help on how to overcome them. • Remember that the same type of speed pattern is present in games 1 to 3 (faster in the center lanes, and slower outward toward the curbs). Game 4 is the opposite. • Don't just judge the lane that's ahead of you. Look at several lanes ahead, so you know what's coming in advance. • Remember that each vehicle within a lane is the same distance apart, as they all go at the same speeds. =============================================================================== 4.
