      INTRODUCTION

Assault is a space shoot-em-up classic for the Atari 2600 by Bomb. While Marvel
vs Capcom is around the corner, I figured I'd tide myself over by FAQing some
retro games. First one on the agenda will be Assault.

         STORY
o---------------------o

The aliens from outer space are invading the Planet Earth. It is up to Earth's
final hope (a single gun) to stop the alien forces' onslaught at all cost. If
it fails then it is all over mankind and life on Earth itself will cease to
exist. The mothership deploys the enemy and you destroy them. Get to 999,999
points and the Earth is saved.

       CONTROLS
o---------------------o

Fire button: to shoot your laser at enemy ships.
Left/Right: to move your weapon left or right.

Note: You can use left or right on the joystick to fire in that direction when
you have to destroy some bullets during phases 4, 8, etc. that skip across the
ground.

       GAMEPLAY
o---------------------o

- Don't go on any shooting spree freely. There is a bar on the lower right that
raises everytime you shoot. If that bar turns red, that means your ship is
overheating. If it's full, you will die automatically.

- You are given three lives to start with. Once all lives are gone, the game is
over.

- The aliens move side to side but not necessarily from one corner to the other
as some will move halfway then move back. The proper way of shooting the aliens
is to shoot ahead of their path so they fly in to the laser's path and blow up.

- Don't bother trying to kill the mother-ship. It is invincible and can also be
fatal as you risk fully overheating.

- Unlike Space invaders, the aliens will never touch ground. In fact, they will
only fly back and forth in three levels: top middle and bottom. When the lower
level of aliens are destroyed, the above aliens will come down.

- There are technically four unique waves in the game. After the fourth wave,
the alien waves will repeat but they will now split when shot.

- Wave 1/5/9/etc.: The ships look like crabs. They drops shots upon you.

- Wave 2/6/10/etc.: The ships look like dragons. They move a little bit faster
than the crabs.

- Wave 3/7/11/etc.: The ships look like jellyfish, instead of lasers they drop
what looks like shotgun shells on you (droppings).

- Wave 4/8/12/etc: The ships look like hawks. They drop a projectile that looks
like a ninja throwing star that will roll across the ground to hit your ship
and you must fire at it with your laser to stay alive.

- There is seems to be no end to this game. You are just playing for points.
However, if you reach maximum score, the game will end and it's more or less a
way of saying you beat the game.

- You earn an extra life for every 10,000 points that you earn. However, you
can only hold up to four lives.
