Oct 27, 2026 Yesterday, when I was browsing some homepages - when I was "surfing the web", like back when that was something real - someone had linked to a geek code generator. I remembered the geek code faintly, from encountering it many years ago when the web was young, and I was, too. But I don't want to write about the geek code. I want to write about the Internet Oracle because the geek code mentioned it, and that was another thing I hadn't thought about it in a long time. But around the year 1999 or 2000, when I discovered it, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I asked questions and I wrote replies and one of my oracular replies even made it into a digest. And yesterday, I thought: Many people who are asking ChatGPT or Claude or other LLMs for life advice would be better off to ask the Internet Oracle. I am sure of it. It would make them happier. But I think it's defunct nowadays.
