"IT GOES OR I GO" I am breaking free from the past. I have the house quite pared back. Understated. Any addition would be a disaster. During the summer the country was dryed-out. I climbed up quite high in the garden and sawed down overhanging branches. I paused, on the ground during a partial eclipse as the spheres seemed to line up. What I'm hearing is that this village is a century old now though my side of the road is from '41. An air corps picture from that year of the estate shows the new builds. It's strange, decades used to have their own distinct characteristics or zeitgeist, now they are all just a mish mash. Some of the older people die off and some houses become available, showing signs of being fixer-uppers. Signs of perhaps a lot of cooking, bathing, cigarettes with not much airflow. New younger homeowners want fresh, not seventies carpets, bad air or depressing decor. "Either it goes or I go". So the house becomes a building site and then re-emerges retro-fitted and extended with renewed kerb appeal. / / / iolfree
