(???) i,
(???) while back, I offered to send off the gopher bot archive to anyone
nterested.
(???) ell, I have finally had the time to assemble the data.
(???) hat I have is four DVDs worth of data.
(TN3) he data has been tar'd, bzip2'd, and split'd. Each image contains two
(???) iles, 1.9GB each. These simply represent the underlying raw bits of
(???) he tar ball. The very list disc is smaller, but I added onto it the
(SND) ource to my bot, the video interview with the UMN folks, and a pg_dump
(???) f my database tables for the bot.
(TN3) he archive untars to approximately 30GB worth of data.
(???) nix users can copy the split'd files to their hard disk, then just cat
(???) .0* | tar -jxvf -
(???) ou'll of course need quite a bit of free disk space to do that.
(???) indows users may have a tough time processing this. copy /b may be
(???) ble to concatenate the files, but then you'll have to untar and unbzip2
t all. Plus, some of these directories contain colons, and may have
(???) ore files per directory than Windows can handle well.
(IMG) am willing to:
(DIR) ) Burn DVDs and send them free of charge to one person in the community
(???) hat will promise to burn and distribute them to everyone else that
(???) ants copies;
(???) r
(PHO) ) Burn DVDs and mail them for some fee -- probably $15 or $20 per
(SND) et -- to any address in the US for everyone that wants them. The fee
(???) ould cover cost of the media, thin jewel cases, packing materials,
(PNG) ostage, and anything left over could I guess be considered to go
(???) owards my time assembling it all.

(???) Hi,
(???)
(???) Awhile back, I offered to send off the gopher bot archive to anyone
(???) interested.
(???)
(???) Well, I have finally had the time to assemble the data.
(???)
(???) What I have is four DVDs worth of data.
(???)
(???) The data has been tar'd, bzip2'd, and split'd. Each image contains two
(???) files, 1.9GB each. These simply represent the underlying raw bits of
(???) the tar ball. The very list disc is smaller, but I added onto it the
(???) source to my bot, the video interview with the UMN folks, and a pg_dump
(???) of my database tables for the bot.
(???)
(???) The archive untars to approximately 30GB worth of data.
(???)
(???) Unix users can copy the split'd files to their hard disk, then just cat
(???) *.0* | tar -jxvf -
(???)
(???) You'll of course need quite a bit of free disk space to do that.
(???)
(???) Windows users may have a tough time processing this. copy /b may be
(???) able to concatenate the files, but then you'll have to untar and unbzip2
(???) it all. Plus, some of these directories contain colons, and may have
(???) more files per directory than Windows can handle well.
(???)
(???) I am willing to:
(???)
(???) 1) Burn DVDs and send them free of charge to one person in the community
(???) that will promise to burn and distribute them to everyone else that
(???) wants copies;
(???)
(???) or
(???)
(???) 2) Burn DVDs and mail them for some fee -- probably $15 or $20 per
(???) set -- to any address in the US for everyone that wants them. The fee
(???) would cover cost of the media, thin jewel cases, packing materials,
(???) postage, and anything left over could I guess be considered to go

(???) Hi,
(???) that will promise to burn and distribute them to everyone else that
(???) wants copies;
(???)
(???) or
(???)
(???) 2) Burn DVDs and mail them for some fee -- probably $15 or $20 per
(???) set -- to any address in the US for everyone that wants them. The fee
(???) would cover cost of the media, thin jewel cases, packing materials,
(???) postage, and anything left over could I guess be considered to go
(???) towards my time assembling it all.
(???)
(???) Thoughts?

(???) ell, finally got around to setting up Bucktooth. Right now I'm
(???) esting on an iBook, but will end up running everything on a Linux
(???) ox. I'm running under xinetd as user "www". I had to make the

(DIR) . Remove the perl -s flag from the #! line (can't run this under
(SND) etgid)
(PHO) . Untaint $ENV{PATH}, $dinfo, and $request (otherwise, the exec calls

(???) ust curious if anyone else had to do this, or if it's just some Mac

(IMG) t's not your code (but forcing it to run under taint mode might be a
(GIF) ood idea). It's just Perl saying "Hey, in case you didn't realize
t, I'm running this in taint mode, even though you didn't specify -T,
(???) nd you'll have to live with it." Living with "it" means doing things
(???) ike untaininting $ENV{PATH} (even if it's not used -- a requirement
(???) hen calling exec(), because an exec'd() process would have access to
(???) hatever is in $ENV{PATH}).
(???) et's see...perl version is 5.8.1.

(???) hile we're on the topic: Does anyone know of a html->gopher
(???) onverter? Something that basically converts HTML tags that can be
(???) onverted to RFC 1436-compliant syntax (i.e., prepending the correct
temtype for links, files, images, etc.), and strips out the rest.
(IMG) 'm setting up a gopher proxy of sorts for WikkaWiki, and want to be
(???) ble to serve up either RFC 1436-compliant pages or wiki pages. The
(???) ssumption here is that Wikka is already set up and running as an HTTP
(SND) ervice; I'm writing a proxy that would intercept a gopher request,
(???) etrieve the wiki page via HTTP, pass it on if it's RFC 1436-compliant, or
(???) onvert/strip out html as appropriate. I just don't like to reinvent
(???) he wheel when I can avoid it.
(???) ll of this would probably work better with a flat-file-based wiki
(???) ike PmWiki (I'd be able to access pages directly), but I'm partial to
(???) ikka for a number of reasons...
