It feels weird calling this a morning post since i'm making it at like 13:00, but I didn't wake up until 11 or so. The blackout curtains in this little guest house work too well. Not a ton of active plans, we need to stock up today since most stores are closed on Sundays in Germany, we want to go up to the center of the city for touristy nonsense, we're going to a beer garden tonight, but that's about all that's on the docket. I did get some japanese study in today, which I've been neglecting while here. Also watched a bit of Beatbreak. In large part we took it a bit easier today until lunch or so. We went to the local döner shop, then went on a walk. We made out way out to Wilhelmshagen which is a lovely little part of Berlin along the Spree and the Müggelsee (a river and a lake.) Had some coffee by the water, walked down to the local S-Bahn station, and went up into central Berlin. Since it was practically along the way we looked at the Brandenberg Gate and Reichstag, since we started walking the wrong way at first we also saw the Altmuseum and Dome. We went to the Paulaner Beer Garden for dinner, since my friend managed to not eat any 'German' food here (we've had plenty of kebabs and such.) He ended up getting roast chicken like a coward. Good frittes though, and I made him try some of the sampler I got. Pretty sure I got the same waiter as last year (he seems to be the one who speaks English best.) Google tried to screw me on the way home again, recommending a train which was cancelled, but the DB website was able to set me straight until we got to the bus: 15 minutes late, utterly packed. They *REALLY* need to get the S3 up again, this is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure that lack of capacity even with the S replacement buses is the problem. Realistically it might even be better to just dedicate those buses to the bus routes that'd serve along the line anyway? We're not particularly near an S-bahn station in the first place, but I noticed huge numbers of people getting on and off at them. We didn't have a chance to food shop properly since (due to how late the bus was) we didn't get to Edeka until 30 minutes before close. We just grabbed some sandwich stuff and some drinks. Through my morbid curiosity (see the Europe entries. By the way, I don't think I wrote it down but Prague has a Popeyes. It's good,) I bought a mountain dew. I'm used to it just being an orange soda in other countries, but apparently German mountain dew is literally just sugar mountain dew? This wasn't the case anywhere else me or my friend have been. There was another fun shock too: I bought some cherry cordials. Now in America, cherry cordials are a cherry and some cherry syrup covered in chocolate. We still call it cherry liqueur but it's just a thick, cherry flavored syrup. No, not here in Europe. They take their cherry liqueur seriously; that was a hell of a first bite when I wasn't expecting it. No big plans left for tonight, just snacks, a couple drinks, and hanging out. Tomorrow is our last full day in Germany and we both have to get going early, plus practically everywhere is closed by law on Sundays in Germany, hence the pressure to grocery shop. We're considering just renting bikes and touring the area, but who knows. .
