@PaulieMoosh I think you need to have a look at the commit log of the Linux kernel and check how many committers are employed by corporations. Or wait, you mean not made by *one* corporation? I am a fairly sure Microsoft uses subcontractors for some parts of Windows. Just like much of the user level software in a whole Linux environment is made by contributors from some company. It is a misconception to think that Linux is made by a bunch of random people on their own time.

Occasionally I try to correct misunderstandings about Linux, that it would be made by random individuals not working for any corporations. Or at least, that is how people often present it.But then I get to my senses and delete the reply. I don’t want to get done into such a rabbit hole. Let silly people believe what they want. And note that I do like Linux.

In the morning I was on a guided tour of this hotel (Belvédère du Rayon Vert in Cerbère), together with an older French lady and her mother. It was fabulous. It was the grandson of the original founder of the hotel that showed us around and told about its history. In French, but I understood maybe 25%. And the French lady provided an English summary now and then. We got to see spaces the public doesn't normally have access to, like the cinema and the rooftop terrace. 1/n

Pondering where to go next, tomorrow. I am beginning to go home now, but considered starting by going Cerbère–Portbou–Barcelona–Latour-de-Carol and then maybe the night train to Paris, or the Petit Train Jaune. But yeah. Probably too complicated. Even getting to Barcelona from here is harder than it could be.There is a LiO train (operated by SNCF) train to Portbou that leaves at 08:37 and arrives at 08:41. While the Rodalies train from Portbou to Barcelona leaves already at 08:35.In other words, exactly as one can expect.In a sane world, the Catalan trains would start in Cerbère, not in Portbou. Just like the Occitan trains go all the way to Portbou. But I guess the Generalitat can't be arsed to find train drivers that speak enough French to be allowed to drive the train a few kilometres into France, or something.#CrossBorderRail

At this stage of a trip, when realising it is time to start going back how, I always start feeling quite home-sick and begin planning how to quickly get to Hamburg, Stockholm, and Helsinki. Seems that if I start from Cerbère tomorrow morning, I can be in Basel well in time for the night train to Hamburg, which now even has Mini Cabins. And this without using a single TGV. Yay. #Interrail
