@cstross @Eh__tweet @maya_b true. If I see what's going on in the country where I was born these days.... Geert Wilders and other far right populist scum.... I think I did well escaping to Ireland when I did. Even better, I first moved to the UK. Boy am I glad I didn't hang around.

@cstross @Eh__tweet @maya_b I spent a long winter on secondment from the UK in Schaumburg, Illinois. But instead of going back to the UK afterward, I moved on to Ireland. And *blink* 30 years have passed. LOL how did THAT happen?I liked living in the UK in the early '90s. I enjoyed the stint in the USA even though it was the winter of 92/93. But those were more innocent times.

@Gustodon we need to understand that it was never about "peace" with MAGA people. They don't care about peace. What they want is a navel gazing USA that turns its back on the rest of the world. So in order to get MAGAts to turn their back on The Orange Menace, don't appeal to a nonexisting "desire for peace". Alert them to the fact that their beloved POTUS is constantly stirring shit OUTSIDE the USA.It worked for MTG and I bet it will work for a lot of other arseholes, too.

Russia is, or should be, a European country or at least a country that should be closely aligned with Europe. Obviously, so is Ukraine. We could be living in a European Union with Ukraine and Russia in Schengen. Instead, we let far right shit stirrers turn the UK into a basket case, allow shitheads like Wilders, Le Pen, Meloni, PiS and Orbán sow division, and a megalomaniac Putin steer Russia headlong into an unnecessary conflict with the rest of us. WHY ARE WE TOLERATING THIS SHIT?

@randahl okay. You're linking to two different sources for the same document at justice.gov I would imagine that, if they get wind of this, the first document will magically disappear. So how can that document be preserved in such a way that its origin cannot be denied even when it disappears there?

@Nonya_Bidniss I trust a lot of people are saving away these PDFs with their current, inadequate, redactions before your DOJ wises up and "fixes" them?

@georgetakei Here's the problem though: If she were the only one who got what she voted for it would be grand. But everyone in the USA got what she voted for. Even we, outside the USA, are confronted daily with that loose cannon in your White House. And there will (hopefully!) be more elections in your country. What do you want her to do then? Vote for the same shower of bastards? Not vote at all? Start using her vote wisely? And if it's the latter, how are you helping her to make that choice?

@kattascha Couldn't agree more, and all I can say for myself is that I will do my best. I hope that other men will, too. Many men, however, are not able for "activism". But maybe those men can at least make lots of micro decisions choosing the option to NOT be sexist and NOT feed into "the patriarchy" when they can.The big gestures are important, but so are the small ones that slowly but surely change society for the better. It all helps..... I hope.

@georgetakei I wonder how those on this list who are still alive feel about having that shit stain added, and whether the dead ones are spinning in their graves.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Israel_Prize_recipients

@alexadeswift @ChrisMayLA6 @ErnstGucker I think you are right in that simply "rejoining" won't be an option. Before that happens I can imagine "Reform" getting into power and making such an unholy mess of things that Scotland finally picks up the gumption to leave the UK and cease being England's vassal state. If that doesn't happen I see Labour convincing itself that an EEA or EFTA "arrangement" without the advantages that Switzerland or Norway have can be sold as "but we are not rejoining".

@ErnstGucker @ChrisMayLA6 @alexadeswift Yup. If there is one thing that any UK government will need to learn it's how to sell "not getting what it wants" to the UK public as a "win" in the negotiations.

@alexadeswift @ErnstGucker @ChrisMayLA6 soz I probably didn't say what I meant to say very well. I didn't mean to suggest that the UK should join the EEA / EFTA, I meant to say it would have to try and negotiate its own, similar, arrangement with the EU.The more important point is that this negotiation would have the EU firmly in the driving seat, and leave the UK with few options other than to accept the EU's demands, and then find a way to sell that at home as a "win".

@ChrisMayLA6 @alexadeswift @ErnstGucker I suspect it wouldn't be either of those, but a separate arrangement between the UK and the EU, very similar to those, but wrapped in such woolly language that most UK citizens won't realise that they have de facto rejoined but that the UK has no say in the EU's decision making, and not even the clout that Norway's wealth or the Swiss banking system gives those countries to wield indirect influence. Labour thinks it must sound like "We aren't rejoining".
