@foosel @fr3d I had the XN1000 when I was a child and after years of begging got upgraded to the much cooler XN3000 - it laid the solid foundation for me half understanding how electronic circuits work. Every kid who shows even the faintest interest in electronics should be given one, imho. If you happen to be the aunt or uncle who has to, and can afford the gift? Do it :-)

@TeflonTrout To some extent and in some usage scenarios. They tend to be less “binary” though and that’s where the analogy slightly breaks. There usually is a proportional increase of current which makes them very useful for amplifying signals for example.

@henryk I do regular chronological bond rewatches, and in the bond series, this is the one - the single one - maybe even the only one - that brings up that "oh no, next one is this one… not this one, please"-feeling. It's a feeling that comes with some episodes of every rewatch of anything, but with this one, that feeling is very profound - in a way not even some ST:TNG S01 episodes can instill.

@sushee @henryk I have been listening to secret agent on somafm for probably two decades. I occasionally forgot about it for a year or two only to tune in to some familiar tunes again every odd leap year. It's one of the few things I subscribed to any pay for each month, only if it's just to say thanks for the fun time I had when I was much younger and more regularly listening.

@julijane Indeed. I have an almost mythical appreciation for DJs in that respect. While I understand and can perform the actual “mechanical” tasks at a mixer with some acuity and have a good ear for what works and doesn’t… finding and selecting the actual stuff to play? That feels not only overwhelming and as unattainable a skill for me as drawing with a pencil on paper from imagination, I wouldn’t even know where to start, leave alone find the stamina to go thorough all the music out there.

@gsuberland It is very cursed and made of 100% industry strength chinesium. Didn't dare to the plug one I got into a mains socket. But in theory it should just require some careful motions in the vicinity of the screen. I got a better insulated one for demagnetizing stuff like screw drivers and it works just fine.
