       The Dutch government is sending these pamphlets to inform the people living in the country of how to prepare in case of an emergency.Tl;dr: you need to have supplies for 3 days (food, water, light sources, warmth sources, medicines...)

       This section stood up to me because it literally happened in my street some weeks ago. There was a *planned* power outage for a few hours, and most of the main street just closed up. Most shops simply closed their doors. The largest supermarket (AH) had prepared and was still open, and even accepted card payments.I was shocked at how many shops just closed up, even bakeries and small business you'd think could keep on going without power.

       I thought it was weird, but my partner said it may not even be up to them.Their registers may be electronic and may not open up without power. Or their insurance may not allow them to handle cash without a secure (aka: electronic) register.Anyways, it was a good reminder that should electricity fail without warning (remember: this was a planned outage) we are so screwed!

       The other day we visited a house buying agent and I mentioned a "nice to have" is a chimney. She looked at me like I was a wild animal walking the city streets and said she's never heard anyone wanting a chimney in a house.But you see, if there is a power outage and I have a chimney and wood, I don't have to survive three days in a cold house. It just seems like a good thing to have just in case...
