a random recollection

It was Wednesday, February 28, 2001. I was a night person, so I
would typically get up around 10 to 11 a.m.

I was half awake when I felt like a big truck had hit my apartment
building. It turned out it was an earthquake, 6.8 magnitude, with
its epicenter between Tacoma and Olympia. To this day, this was the
only earthquake I have experienced in the Pacific Northwest.

Later that day, I ordered lunch from Kozmo.com. No minimum order
and no delivery charges were Kozmo's selling point. A bike courier
would deliver within one hour, as the company claimed. I got myself
some Japanese-style bento lunch (I cannot remember the details on
what was in it) from Madison's Grill.

That was my first and last time I used a delivery service of this
type. Kozmo went out of business a few months later. Webvan
survived a bit longer. The dot-com bust hit those companies hard.
Almost 26 years later, I still have not used any delivery services:
not Instacart, not Uber Eats, not DoorDash.
