                     Master Tracks Pro 4.6

IMPORTANT:
Disk #2 - The Software Bonus Disk - has a separate Setup program for the
Animation Player and the sample "QuikTunes" MIDI Files. Please run the
Setup program from The Software Bonus Disk to install these files. For
the most convienent installation select the same drive and directory
that was used when you installed Pro 4. This would be C:\PRO4 unless you
made a change. The Software Bonus also contains several supplemental MCI
drivers for use with Pro 4's new MCI features but these drivers must be
installed separately by using the "Drivers" applet in the Windows
Control Panel. For more information about MCI drivers and the Software
Bonus Disk, see the file README2.TXT on that disk.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MIDI DRIVERS -
MIDI interfaces require the presence of special software in order
to run. This software is in the form of a "driver" - in most cases you
should install the MIDI Driver that came with your MIDI interface when
running under Windows 3.1

This version of Master Tracks Pro 4 is designed to run with the
Windows 3.1 MIDI drivers or with Multimedia Extensions to Windows 3.0.
If you are running Windows 3.0 you will need to install Passport's
own MIDI drivers and follow the special instructions to get Pro 4 to run.

Note: The presence of 3.0 or 3.1 is detected by the setup program so,
in most cases, you do not need to change the defaults when installing.

In other words.....
If you have the Windows Multimedia Extensions or Windows 3.1 you should
NOT install the Passport MIDI drivers, instead you can use any MIDI
driver that is designed to work with Windows 3.1 or the Multimedia
extensions.
If you do NOT have Windows 3.1 or the Multimedia Extensions to
Windows 3.0 you MUST install the Passport MIDI drivers in order for
Master Tracks Pro to run.

NOTE: You MUST install the MediaVision driver that comes with Pro4
to use a MediaVision board with Windows 3.0. Simply select it when
installing from our setup program.

There are two cases where you might want to use Passport's MIDI
drivers even if you are running Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions
or Windows 3.1. The first case if you want to use Passport's MIDI
Transport interface. The second case is if you want to connect a Miracle
Keyboard or a Yamaha TG-100 sound module directly to your computer's COM
port. In any of these cases you can install the Passport MIDI drivers
into the same directory where Pro 4 is installed. Then, to use the
Passport MIDI drivers instead of the Multimedia Extensions or Windows
3.1 drivers, simply run Windows from inside the Pro 4 directory. Be
aware that when you do this that the rest of the multimedia capabilities
of Windows (i.e. Wave Audio, etc.) will not function. To restore full
multimedia capabilities you must exit Windows and re-run Windows from
any other directory that does not contain the Passport MIDI drivers.

Note: If you have a MusicQuest MQX style MIDI interface, and you want to
use its extended 32 MIDI channel or SMPTE syncing capabilities with
Windows 3.1 or the Multimedia Extensions then you should get the driver
that is available from MusicQuest.

THE SETUP PROGRAM
The Setup program creates a Program Manager group called "Pro4"
and several Program Manager items (icons) for the Pro 4 executable
program and sample files.

Several sample music files are included with Pro 4. Some of the
files are authored and voiced according to authoring guidelines for
Multimedia PCs, where channels 1 through 10 are for Hi-End General
MIDI style sound modules, while channels 13 through 16 are for base-
level Adlib, SoundBlaster or MediaVision style FM synth cards. The
best way to get these files to sound good on your system is to play
them back through a correctly configured MIDI Mapper. You can do this
by selecting the MIDI Mapper as the output port in Master Tracks Pro's
MIDI Setup dialog. Alternativly, you can playback the base-level
channels directly to an Adlib sytle FM synth, by selecting the
corresponding output port in the MIDI Setup dialog and by soloing the
tracks that are assigned to channels 13 through 16. MIDI Mapper
support is only available when running with the Multimedia Extensions
or Windows 3.1. Of course, if you have a General MIDI synth, such as
the Roland SC-55 Sound Canvas connected to a MIDI out port, then you
could solo all tracks that are assigned to channels 1 through 10 and
play them back directly to the General MIDI synth.

There are also several sample music files that are voiced for the
Miracle Keyboard. If you choose either the "Miracle Keyboard" or the
"Sample Music Files" option, Setup will install these files and create
Program Manager icons for them.

The other sample music files that are included are either voiced
for a Roland MT-32, CM-64 or LAPC style synth or are generic enough
to sound good on just about any synth or sound module. These files
are not intended for multimedia purposes and will not sound right
when played back through the MIDI Mapper.

USING MCI COMMANDS AND DRIVERS:

This versions of Pro 4 allows you to embed MCI commands in your MIDI
sequence. Using MCI can be very complex as support for new devices and
file formats is appearing every day. In general, however, a "driver" must
be installed using the "Drivers" applet in the Windows 3.1 control panel
in order to access MCI devices and media players. Currently, the most
common use for MCI in a MIDI sequencer is to play .WAV audio files via the
MCI Wave Audio Driver (this is usually installed automatically when you
install Windows 3.1 if you have a supported audio card). Also included
with Windows 3.1 is an MCI driver for playing CD audio disks on supported
CD-ROM drives.

On this Bonus Disk, we have also included MCI drivers for playing
Autodesk animation files, MacroMind Director style animation files
(Microsoft Multimedia Movies) and Pioneer Videodisk players. To install
these drivers choose "Add Unlisted or Updated Driver" from the "Drivers"
applet in the Windows' Control Panel. Insert the Bonus Disk into the
appropriate drive when prompted then click OK.

Using the MCI capabilities of Pro4 is detailed in the appendix of the
manual or in the addendum that came with this package.

Passport would like to thank the Autodesk Corporation for allowing us to
include the Autodesk Animation Player, MCI driver, DLL and sample files
on the Software Bonus Disk.
