Mostly this is all just boring history of the map:

Neighbors started out as a random generated extra large map barely
seen by human eyes except for adding some things to the mostly empty
water areas (Version 1.0).

The castle areas did not have enough resources close at hand,
so some were added for version 1.1. It was still too tough on the blue
player, so for version 1.2 a second player with better pathfinding and
logistics was added for all 4 players. One inconvenient level 3
monster was moved slightly away from the blue castle door.
Some more mines, saw mills, etc. were added in strategic locations.
Also, two one time event locations were added. Two of the 3 Dragon
Cities were removed and a Xanadu and one easy Sphinx were added.

In version 2.1, the blue players starting hero was customized to help further with the tough terrain in the starting area. Some edits were made to terrain, objects, additional events, etc. It was pointed out that you get attacked by your enemies rather quickly in this game adding to the relative difficulty. Changed rating to tough. Also added some additional events, island, beefed up a hero in a jail, more terrain features, etc.

Since we always play the blue and green side, they may be in a slightly
more advantageous position to start. That is, I made sure blue and
green have a way to get essential resources early. But, you can play
any color.

My wife and I like to play cooperative games, but it is hard to find
good ones. This game was very tough for the green player, so it went
through a couple of revisions that I hope will make it more enjoyable.
Play testing of version 1.2 showed it was very tough on blue and green.
Also, red had early access to a Jail with a powerful hero.

Version 2.0 is much more balanced when two human players cooperate as
green and blue. We have never play tested as red and yellow, allowing
the computer to take green and blue. Something you may not like in
version 2.0 is the addition of a burrow mound. This of course is a
very powerful location and seems somewhat out of balance with the rest
of the map. You can win this quite handily without resorting to
hundreds of ghosts, but you could use them to hasten the end if you
want to get it over with.

There are lots of monsters and resources and a very few suprises.
You will wend your way through some tough areas with nothing to make
it worthwhile. Such is life.

I hope you enjoy the map. Let me know if you encounter any particular
problems and I will attempt to fix them in the next version.
