Sound Issues and FAQ
--------------------

***********************************************************************
Note to Creative Labs AWE 32 and AWE 64 sound card users:
A custom Sound Font is included with Blast Thru. IT REQUIRES AT LEAST 512k OF RAM ONBOARD YOUR AWE 32 OR 64 CARD!
***********************************************************************

1. - Sound Font FAQ (If you don't have a Creative Labs AWE 32 or AWE 64 sound card, skip ahead to #2. Otherwise, read on.)

      Q. What is a Sound Font?

      A. A Sound Font is a customizable "synthesizer" for Creative Labs AWE 32 and 64 cards. It is an actual file that is loaded into the sound card's RAM and it plays back MIDI files.

      Q. How do I load the Blast Thru Sound Font?

      A. (NOTE: If you have purchased Blast Thru, the Blast Thru Sound Font is included with the game, so disregard the download stuff if you have bought the game) First, you'll need to download it at "www.rocksolidsoftware.com". It is in ZIP format, so you'll need a zip program like Winzip to unzip it (download it at www.winzip.com). Open the AWE Control Panel in your Sound Blaster directory, and click the synth tab at the top. Next, click the Available Synth arrow, and bring it down to User Synth. Then click the browse key and find the directory where you extracted the Sound Font file to. Click on the file labeled "bt.sf2", hit OK, then click apply. Now just make sure your synth is active be opening Control Panel and clicking Multimedia. Click on the MIDI tab and make sure that you have "MIDI for Creative Advanced Wave Effects Synthesis for AWE 32" selected, and now you're all set.

      Q. When I try to load the Blast Thru, I get the error "Your EMUxxxx hardware has insufficient memory."

      A. You need to have at least 512k of onboard RAM on your sound card. If you have an AWE 64, this shouldn't be a problem, since all AWE 64's have at least 512k of RAM built on. But if you have an AWE 32 value, with no factory installed RAM, you'll need to buy RAM for it. It only takes the old-school 30 pin RAM, which isnt really avaliable anymore, so good luck finding it.

      Q. Whoa, Sound Fonts rock hardcore. How do I make them?

      A. They do rock. I use Vienna Sound Font Studio to make my Sound Fonts.

      Q. Can I edit and/or distribute the Blast Thru Sound Font with another program?

      A. Nope, sorry. It's copyrighted and protected. If you want a Sound Font for your program, be original and make your own.

      Q. I tried to use the Blast Thru Sound Font with other MIDI applications, and some of the sounds are strange.

      A. The BB Sound Font was designed to be used only with Blast Thru. It is not 100% General MIDI compatible and I don't recommend you try using it with other MIDI applications.

2. - General sound FAQ

      Q. How do I adjust the music and sound volume in the game?

      A. Go to the options menu when you start Blast Thru, choose "Master Volume" and adjust it there.

      Q. My synthesizer is terrible. Is there any other synth I can use?

      A. Yes, you can use Yamaha XG Soft Synth S-YXG50, (a trial version is available for download at "http://www.yamaha-xg.com/english/xg/") but ONLY if you have a Pentium 166 with MMX or higher! Using this software-based synthesizer on anything less than the required setup can produce EXTREMELY poor game performance. The earlier version of Yamaha Soft Synth, S-YG20, will not work well in DirectX games such as Blast Thru, so it is important that that you download S-YXG50. Once you install it, be sure to select "Yamaha SXG50 Driver" in the MIDI Multimedia Section of Windows Control Panel. There are also tons of other software synthesizers out there, but I prefer Yamaha over all.

     Q. I cant get sound or music in the game, or I get sound related errors when trying to play.

     A. You'll need to download the latest version of Direct X from Microsofts website. If that doesn't work, you'll need to find the website of your soundcard and download the latest drivers from them.
