Inspired to pick this up again by GopherVR proposal.
Site navigation indices:
- directory list by name
- directory list by activity date
- all file list by name
- all file list by modification date
?Optional 'latest' section in each directory index page?

TIR was nearing completion in September, but progress bogged down
on development of icons and logos, and eventually suspended due
to external distractions.
In the mean time I have made some observations that call for a
reexamination TIR's design:
- I don't have the time or talent to produce acceptable graphics
for icons and logos.
- An uncluttered, primarily textual interface is more attractive
than one with poor graphics.
- The side bar is a distraction, at least on content pages (as
opposed to index pages where a side bar may be acceptable).
- Even though Bloxsom and Yukiwiki are inspirational and in
aspects temptingly close to my desired functionality, both have
sufficient shortcomings to make the completion of TIR worthwhile.
- Even though I've been aiming for an arbitrary network of
content nodes (directories), experience with ITS suggests that a
simpler two-level file system may be the simpler solution that
fulfils most requirements.
- At an early stage in the TIR design I considered implementing
page formatting and style with server-side includes.
This was attractive as a simple, standardized means of removing
repetitious headers etc. from content files.
However, I rejected the idea because of the perceived requirement of
a web server to process the SSI directives was impractical for local
viewing on the Zaurus.
Recent realizations may call for SSI to be reevaluated:
- Zaurus can be and has now been configured for SHTML files to be
opened with Net Front automatically.
- SHTML is simple enough that programming a local stand-alone
filter might be practical.
